Default Wireless...

Currently moving home and previous occupants have left all their wireless hub etc and said to use it. I'd rather not have wires trailing about as I need to get two machines on the web in different locations in the house. So, is it as simple as buying a couple of wireless cards for the box's and making them see the wireless hub? I am currently on bt broadband (not wireless) is this going to make any difference, i.e it'll still work won't it?

What else do I need to know.

Basically, it'll depend on what wireless hub's they have left. But in a nutshell, if you have 2 x base units, just put a pci wireless adaptor in one of them, and connect the other one to the hub via ethernet cable

Dan, I forgot to mention that the phone line and wireless gear is all upstairs in a bedroom, not near where the machines need to go, and I want to avoid trailing an rj45 across the landing to the other room etc, but with the wireless hub do I still need to plug it in to one of the machines via usb to work?

Wireless should be fine from both machines without problems.
Wack a wireless adaptor in the machines set up WEP on the hub/access point so you neighbours cant use your BB to look at porn.
The only reason you may need to plug into it USB is to configure it. IE WEP.
Now depending on who set this up and what model it is you may not be able to access its setup console wirelessly. Mine has a check box to disable configuration via wireless.

The wireless side is all end user kit. Its still working on Ethernet/TCP-IP protocols so won't matter if its wired/wireless.

I don't have wireless myself, but from talking to others about it, a proper wireless hub and modem shouldn't need to be connected directly to a machine to "put out" broadband. As with what Lee said tho, you might need to connect it via USB to a computer in order to configure it with your ISP details and set it to connect with your other machines. My suggestion is temporarily set up a PC (or better still use a laptop) plugged into the hub/modem via USB, configure it, and get it to connect to your machines. Then once you have everything set up, you should be able to unplug the laptop and it should run fine

Cheers guy's was pretty sure it would be fine Plugging in to configure will be fine...and yes I will be securing it don't worry

In fact....just looking into the wireless router it is either one of these:

http://www.shop.bt.com/invt/car103

http://www.shop.bt.com/invt/car104

It DOES seem though that they are designed to either work with BT Yahoo Broadband or BT Broadband. (I'm using BT Broadband) and I have a funny feeling this one is the Yahoo one (Box etc is at the other house)

So maybe it WONT work....fuck knows how it would be able to establish that and what the point of it is
