Default Still cant get macromedia to work....suggestions to try....

I have been looking in the Video forum on Pf and there are a lot of link which goto 'Streetfire.net'

Looks like there's some excellent video clips on there, but i just cannot get my computer to let me view them....

When i try i get a blank white screen where the video should be.

I click on the 'test your macromedia' blah blah blah, and when i do it takes me to the macromedia site whereby nothing happens.........

can somebody please suggest a way around this???

Do you actually have macromedia on your pc?

Vids on streetfire work fine for me and ive got macromedia flash player and macromedia shockwave player, download both and it should work? if you have one of those then make sure you get the one you havent got, then try it

P.s if your unsure whether you have them or not then go into control panel- add remove programmes and they will be in there if you have them installed

Download it from somewhere else then

http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0....media&tag=srch

scroll down abit and click on the first one in the list (macromedia flash professional 8)

That should get it working but if it doesnt then download this aswell(agian, the first one in the list(flash player internet explorer 8.0.22) http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0....layer&tag=srch

Dont worry about downloading all this because you will need it one day so its good to have

Temporarily disable both firewalls, and the one on the router, then download and install Macromedia player 8, then re-activate the firewalls. Also, have you got any ad blockers, pop up blockers etc ?

Ok m8, let me know how you get on, it could also be the pop up blockers, so try temporarilty turning them off too

I think ive found the problem.........

It appears from various forums that Flash does not work on X64 systems......

It appears X64 owners have been waiting for a 64bit version of Flash for some time.........

it should still try and download

try resetting your web browser settings, it sounds like it's being blocked by some security settings (firewall itself won't be blocking it)

hurm possibly, would still of thought would go slightly further than it is doing before it bombed out... why not use 32bit version of windows ?

most apps you will be running (if not all) will be 32bit, so you really aren't benefitting from 64bit windows

Not strictly true, running even 32bit applications are seeing boosts in performance over a 32bit system

as for games....

There is little support for 64bit version of windows
I have a 64bit 3500+ in one of my machines, it's running 32bit Windows - I tried 64bit windows. I saw no performance gains for day-to-day tasks, and only fractional ones in games.

Due to the lack of support, I went back to the 32bit version!

I found mine went the other way.....noticably quicker in many applications especially picture editing, and some of my games were definitely much quicker (frame rates) on X64....

Guess there's too much to determine like for like comparisons since there are so many different system specs.....

Annoying isn't it kev

I believe that mine is related to X64, since the people on the 64bit forum have said both Flash and shockwave are not compatible with X64, and there is still no release date for a 64bit version.

Just have to wait and see then........

Hope you get your's sorted Kev

I was just trying to see if it was an installer issue, and not neccessarily a Flash / Shockwave issue. Either way, it's baffled me m8
