might buy this stick of ram if it fits my pc, can anyone say if it will or not.

i got a emachines 390 and i use ddr ram, will this 1gb stick fit

1GB Samsung DDR RAM

there the numbers on it.

anyone know if its any good to me?

 

You can fit up to 2GB of ram in your machine mate so thats not a problem

but you need to find out what speed the memory stick is, you know its DDR but theres more numbers like pc2700 or the one you said above, now my emachines uses pc2700 333mhz so i dont think yours would be pc1600.

Easy way to check is to take the case off and pop out the exsisting ram stick and there should be a sticker on it that says everything you need to know.

P.s its important because if you get the wrong speed it wont work if its not the right type of DDR

 

you can tell im not a computer person cant ya,

so if i pop a stick out i will be able to see if it will work by the speed right.

so im looking for a number starting with PC yeah, and if its dont say pc1600r it wont work.

 

It'll be on a white sticker, stating the size, and the speed in MHZ

 

If you havent already got the case off and looked then go onto this site http://www.crucial.com/store/listmfgr.asp?cat=RAM and then click scan my system and it will tell you exactly what RAM you need

Let me know what it is as im interested to know if its the same as mine or not but i reckon yours is either pc2700 or pc3200

 

only problem with that mate is it doesnt list a emachine 390

 

you dont have to look for your system, its just what i said, click on the link then about halfway down the page it says "scan my system", click on that and it will tell you it needs to download a very small file for it to scan, so download it and then click on run and it will scan your pc and on the results it will say how much ram you currantly have and also what type/speed ram you have now(which is the type you need to jot down and buy)

havent looked mate, been working today and not had a chance.

yeah my pc had 512 ram but i put another 256 in ages ago

from the looks/sound of thigs so far its not gunna be any good

so i guess from that its no good to me then

 

well you definatly have pc2100 266mhz ddr ram, so depending on how many slots you have for ram you can fit another 1gb stick in or if you only have 2 slots then you will have to ditch the smallest stick in favour of a bigger one

 

thought i had 3 slots but ive only got 2 so would get shot of the 256, but would the 1gb ram stick in my first post fit my machine?

dont want to spend money for nothing, i know i could go to a shop and get the right one but this stick in the first post has come up for a good price

In your first post it says PC1600 and yours is PC 2100, so no im afraid it wont work!!

See dans post above for the ram you need, and you wont get brand new RAM any cheaper than that
