got a problem with the pc
when i watch vids or try and play online games i keep getting a blue screen with white writing saying a load of rubbish and says something about dumping data
and it crashes any ideas or shall i take a hammer to it
does it have a bad virus? or is there a bust component my bird was doing 10 hours of uni work offline yesterday and not a problem but it seems to keep happening to me even when i look on ebay

You are getting the "Blue Screen Of Death" - or BSOD in shorthand....
It will say something like this;

The important bit is to see if it says "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL"
If it does then the problem will most likely lie in the graffix card drivers, seeing as it only does this for video's and games, both of which show on the screen directly from the gfx card, rather than through the OS (which is why you can't do a screen print of a video
)
You need to either re-install the original driver (if the gfx card is a stock item that came in the machine when you got it, you should have autilities disc for this, or if it is an aftermarket componant, then you should have a driver installation disc) or "roll back" the driver to try and find an alternative that doesn't cause you problems.
Try this link for explantions to rolling back drivers;

I had this problem lots and lots and lots when I installed a bluetooth usb device and used the driver that came with it. 5 mins after turning on I would get this BSOD, but if I unplugged the bluetooth USB stick and rebooted it was fine. Plug the bluetooth usb device back in, 5 mins later I would get a crash with this screen. It was because the device driver conflicted with Windows XP OS and they kept having a little fall out
I did a SYSTEM RESTORE back to the day BEFORE I installed the driver and it has been fine ever since (I am not using that bluetooth device anymore I might add)
That is the other thing you can do - if you remember when this started happening, you can use the System Restore feature to go back to the day before. This will only work if the problem isn't associated with a new graffix card you have fitted tho....
See this link for using the System Restore correctly;

Dan's about to tell you about all the tiny bits n bobs you may well have lost by hoovering out your PC
Like these for example;

Little jumper blocks that will be all over your mobo, which dictate settings
Plus little rsistors etc that easily come off with a good bit of suction
Dan don't like hoovers in PC's. When I found this on ebay and posted it up (cos I thought it was a bit daft) he told me off
