From within XP, create a new formatted partition using the Administrative Tools (Disk Management). Reboot with the 98/ME/2000 (in my opinion, avoid WinME) in, as long as it's a bootable CD, and then install it onto the newly-created partition. Once it's installed, you should then automatically get the choice of which OS you want to boot into when you switch the computer on...

Is the reason you need to run two OSs because some software won't run natively in XP, by the way? If so, have you tried the compatibility options built into XP?

What you will need to do, is re-size your current hard disk's partition using the disk management program. Then, on the remaining hard drive space, create a primary partition, format it in whatever file system you want (fat or ntfs) and then what you will ned to do, is boot up from your desired operating system cd. Windows 98 / ME will only see the new partition and install fine, Windows 2000 will see both so be very careful.

I personally would go with Windows 98 or 98 SE on the 2nd partition

Other option, which IMO is much easier, would be to put in a 2nd hard drive, and install windows on that

If you get partition magic 8.0, it has a partition manager that formats the freshly made partition for another OS ( win 95 - 98 - 98se etc ) and yeah i tend to agree STAY away from Win ME its poo.....
