mk 4 starting issue
Hello all got a bit of a problem with an 1989 m4 esc cab.Been working on it for a few months now.It has not been on the road for five years.Took it for an MOT and it passed no problems well happy. Now onto the problem it started fine in the garage drove to test centre turned it off and it would not restart had to borrow jump pack it was running for about an hour turned it off and again had to jump it drove it home turned it off and again would not start just been out after 4 days and it started i don't get it if bat was to flat to start after driving why would it start 4 days later.i think it is battery as starter motor is trying to go but its like not enough in battery.I would have thought after running for a hour it would have enough charge. How do i test alternator thats the only thing i can think of any idears. Will post pictures soon when i work out how to plus is there any xr3i/cab clubs in the oxford area.

Your battery will self charge a bit over time, but long periods will sulphate and therefore loose stregnth! Thats how it will start after four days, defo sounds like a poor alt, check fuses, wiring and volts in battery static and engine running!
