zsdom's Mk5 zs
Hi all
Some may know me from other forums, some may not, some may not give a shit but I signed up a while ago but not posted much so here'e my project thread!
Well im on my 2nd zs now this is what happened to my first one
after which I searched for 2 months and came across this
a ph.1 on 79k already fitted with coilovers and a k&n cone and already had club stickers on! so i snapped her up for £1990.
She stayed as you see her above for a few months and as i became more familiar with the site and the members the modifying bug hit me!
First to come was a set of smoked headlights & ST170 caps
next up some dizzy bint decided she wanted a zs on her rav4's spare tyre and mine was the lucky chosen one, no real damage just a cracked rear lense and a scuff on the paintwork. I then won a set of rear lights and side repeaters for £7! so i set to work here's the finished result:
Then that was it for a few more months until a friend decided he wanted an frs..........................!
Speedline turini's in white was the first thing i took off his car
i was all set on getting them refurbed in anthracite until i put them on.. which then i fell in love with them silver and white shouldnt look good but they do
i also took a set of mudflaps a ka wiper and a puma gear knob but i havent any pictures of those! and thats how she stands as of now, the mods have slowed down recently as in the last month i've had to tax mot xmas and new years all to contend with but next up some sounds................................

I also forgot to add the st150 brakes i have
I came home and got some mods on the car and spent the day cleaning her up:
The mods, were some colour coded door and boot handles
car (and her beauty spot!) with Cupra splitter & as she stands now,
A few pics from a rolling road meet
Where we made a whopping 115bhp, Im over the moon considering its a standard ph.1 on 91k proper job!
Video of runs

Pointless mod time!!!!
Another little mod (I'm a mod on zsoc so repping for my site!)
Then someone decided they liked the look of my radio but not the look of my door
So I found a new door for £20 but the colour match was terrible
Then someone keyed it & it was looking so sorry for itself
So I got chatting to a zsoc member that worked at VW in Mansfield and the weekend Wills & Kate got married the last I saw of her:
Then got some pics sent to me
To say I was happy is an understatement

Then I started to get a small detailing itch, I wanted to keep her looking like that as best I could
Cleaned the wheels today:
Before:
During:
After also fitted new wheel nuts:
Also painted my calipers:
I used Bilberry to soak the wheels, pressure washed off then AG shampoo to clean the wheels, they wheels were covered in loads of tiny little scratches so I used T-cut scratch remover to get them looking good again then waxed with the wheel specialist wax & sealed with poorboys sealant (smells amazing!)
I'm fitting a Ph2 interior with fiesta black leather doorcards (thanks to Bayfezza for the front & rear doorcards, kickplates & B pillars).
The doorcards have Ghia door handles to set them off nicely(Thanks to rowly for the A & C pillars, rear speaker pod thingys, & ghia handles) :
and a puma maplight

Then came this
I had nearly a full Ph2 interior in a Ph1 car except the dash so this happened
This was the stupidest thing i've ever done, such a ballache, but its all back together & new steering wheel fitted
Puma option wheel & Ph2 dash (and fubar center console!!)
Then
Which led to
my interior now looks like:
Puma Millenium front seats & a full black Puma carpet & center console

Had a boo boo
Sump plug fucked off whilst at national on the A38 doh!!
Leather rear bench installed & I think I can now say my interior has been completely changed 99% of the interior has been swapped!
So my interior now looks like:
Had her on the rollers today, made 129.8bhp & 121.5lb/ft at the fly so I'm happy with that
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz4u...ature=youtu.be
That video caused a bit of stir with the smoke, no one believed me that it was just a cold sports cat, and I was told my head gaskets gone, my engine fubar.
Well over a year & 12K later she's still running faultlessly anbd pulls very well, ask Smudgerbyname, left him behind a few times!!

Rear discs on:
front calipers prepped for paint
Carriers painted
Caliper painted (They're both done!)
My makeshift spray booth!!
Not the best job in the world but they'll be stuck behind wheels & I'm not that bothered! Tomorrow brings putting the fronts back on & putting in new fluid & bleeding
fronts are back on she's back on terra firma & nearly all good, well the handbrake works!

50/50
its finished now & back on but I forgot after pics
then today brought the wheels off, cleaned with g101 & smart wheels, then onto Tardis
and Iron X'd
Then clayed polished & IPA'd and cealed with CCC ceramishield
Gave the arches a blast too from this
To this
Some updates of sorts!
Finally fitted some dashboard end plates that were missing when I put the Ph2 dash in
Before
After
You can see from this pic, the bonnet wasnt sitting quite right:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/50682457@N02/9607221553/http://www.flickr.com/photos/50682457@N02/9607221553/, on Flickr
The diagnosis was a bent hinge, this also hindered the bonnet opening as the hinge wasnt hinging & the metal was twisting open
Compared to a normal hinge
I also fitted the bulkhead cover thingy, I just need the rubber strip that runs across the top of it, its in the garage somewhere
and my Ford battery cover
Leaving the bay looking like

So zsoc's Heritage museum meet last april it went into the bodyshop for new arches, to say I was unhappy with the initial work was an understatement here's why:
It went back in to be rectified, once back I still wasnt happy but I could rectify most of it myself so cracked on with a 3 day, 3 stage machine polish and full detail, all sealed up with Wolfs bodywrap & Gtechniq G1

Last update to bring us up to date
Update:
My lambda sensor had caught on something & ripped itself apart, so got it in the air & soldered it back together, decided to change the oil whilst I'm there, I went to start her up and heard a loud hissing noise, couldnt see anything, proceeded to start her up to get a very strong smell of petrol had a quick look under and I've split a fuel hose misting petrol over the coilpack & exhaust manifold, I'd smelt a strong petrol smell on my way home from a supermarket, lucky it went when it did, 20mins earlier I was driving enthusiastically with a 3series.
I could've lost my car & thats a sobering thought
So, changed the length of pipe today, previously it went pretty much as the crow flies to the fuel rail, this time I added a lot longer length and followed the fuel return
I initially thought it had rubbed on one of the coilpack bolts, going through and splitting
So thats where we are as on today, up next? I dont know, I have a set of LM3 cams that will be fitted at some point but I'll probably have the whole engine rebuilt whilst I'm there!
I'll also get that dent sorted & start to stock pile parts, updates will be slowing down rapidly whilst I save for a house but will keep this thread updated

Maybe too much for a rusty fiesta
The wheels certainly still turn heads after nearly 4 years of being on the car!
Thanks Glenn, the seats bolted nearly straight in, all I needed was some top hats from a Mk4

Update time!
So I wanted the engine cover off but this fucking bolt was having none of it
So I tried to tap a hex into it but that kept rounding it, so tried the a bigger hex and bigger hammer, nothing tap tap tap tap tap, pissed off fucking welly it this happened
So the intake strip down began, luckily I had a spare inlet I was waiting to get powdercoated, so that been bought forward I'll get the alternator stipped & coated too.
Here's where we stand tonight

OK so I think this is worthy of an update with a quick recap, so this:
Was removed and replaced with this
Leaving this
Which then subsequently decided not to work, so a replacment was sought. But first car was towed to Smudgerbyname's lock up but the front end had to be stripped down to get it on a friends towloader
Later that day saw this
then later that day saw people looking into an engine bay
I dont have any pictures of the replacement engine.
So the engine was in & started, put back together all fluids checked & topped up, ready to go home & I couldnt get a gear. At all.
Bled the clutch like a mofo, nothing. Which led to alot of head scratching with a few opinions it was decided to pull the box and replace the slave.
So 2 weekends passed whilst waiting for help & decent weather when myself & a mate cracked on with removing the box, pulled it off pretty easy enough and decided to check the clutch itself (I had a hunch something was amiss here, luckily I did)
When the engine was going back in I left the clutch to a mate & in his infinite wisdom to put the friction plate on the wrong way round, so this was rectified, the slave swapped and everything double tripple checked, box back on everything zipped up & transmission fluid topped up & drove home.
So there we are 1x 1.7 Shawspeed SS4 cammed engine all in running good, amongst all of that I had to replace the battery, there's a few things I need to tidy up & double check, I need to replace the driveshafts, fix the speedo drive and the exhaust is blowing but these are easy fixes.
The first start up (with my snapchat username if anyone fanciesseeting pointless rubbish
and a litte rev (the oil is **** from the swap sitting on the exhaust, it has since burnt off)

So I suppose I best post an update
Long story short, car failed its MOT & needs a fair bit of welding underneath and I thought the best way to go about this was to tackle it all rather than dribs & drabs, so storage was sorted, tooling was sorted & away I go:
Starting with the headlights (I swapped some bulbs over into my new daily focus)
Untitled by justdom1, on Flickr
Then the interior
Seats & carpet out, you can see part of the reason why its now sorn on the right hand side
Untitled by justdom1, on Flickr
Then the door cards & speakers
Untitled by justdom1, on Flickr
Steering wheel
Untitled by justdom1, on Flickr
Ted the duck moved into the new daily
Untitled by justdom1, on Flickr
then everything else & the dash
Untitled by justdom1, on Flickr
The turini's came off
Untitled by justdom1, on Flickr
Thats where we are as of today, all thats left in the interior is the belts & headlining which will be out next week. If anyone knows a decent welder in the midlands let me know, I could make them very rich with the amount it needs doing
The new daily as seen at FiTP wearing some familiar shoes

Bought these
all fluids except engine oil drained, the front brakes & driveshafts removed then ball joints & track rod ends disconnected (note all the grease from a CV boot failure:laugh

Then pulled the majority of the pipes & header tank off

Thats all for a short while, my shifts wont allow me to be over for 2 weeks but the next few visits will be boxing things & labelling bolts and having a tidy up around the car its filthy!
The plan roughly then is to carry on stripping the engine bay, wiper motors & mechnisms, brake servo, air con pipes, power steering then onto removing the front subframe, then petrol tank, all brake & petrol lines rear brakes & beam then save like a muther****er
Will be keeping all updated. Slowly!

Slowly!
