Peugeot 205 Mi16 Start > Present - A bit of a setback
Bought in April 2006 as a standard 1.6 GTi.
First thing i did was to lower it, was pretty happy with the results:
I then attended a club meet and had it rollong roaded (Westec) where it produced 109bhp (cant remember at what revs tho):
I then found a cheap 1.9 donor car from which i salvaged wheels and a few other bits and pieces:
The wheels were in pretty poor condition tho so i set about refurbishing them with the help of a friend:
At this point i managed to kill the 1.6 engine so i thought it was an ideal time to try and find an Mi16 with which to replace it. Decided to remove the 1.6 at this point in preperation:
With the engine out i set about cleaning the engine bay, was pretty impressed with the results:
Next task - finding an Mi16!!! £500 and 360+ miles later i returned home with this (even got a free Haynes manual with it lol):
So out came that engine:
When i bought the car i was told the engine had recieved a complete rebuild costing £1700 (with reciept). So after opening her up we were able to confirm she had recently recieved new pistons, liners, valves, haed gasket, etc.... so that was a great bonus!!
Now it was time for the fun to begin Using solid rubber mounts i fitted the engine into the 205 (no gearbox yet as that was being rebuilt:
Then when my gearbox arrived that was fitted (it is a 1.6 box fitted with the final drive from the Mi16) now it was all coming together nicely:
Time for a pint i think :
Next up I bought and fitted a Mocal 13 row oil cooler and hoses. The Mi16 wateril cooler is too big to fit behind the radiator and as I’m running twin fans I cudnt run the airil from a 1.9 GTi. :
Now that the engine, gearbox, coolant system, manifolds, etc were all fitted it was time to get stuck into the wiring. For this I enlisted the help of my good friend Mikey G (for those that know him), who did a fantastic job for me/ I also chose to relocate the battery to the boot:
Battery in its box (with cut off switch):
Here is she is ready to fire up:
And she fired up first turn of the key… yay!! Next up I decided to sort the brakes. After looking at the different options available, and my bank balance, I opted for the Hi-spec 285mm disc conversion along with Mintex 1144 pads, it seams to do the job nicely:
With the car now running I was able to drive it to Prospeed in Cardiif where it was fitted with a full stainless steel system (2.5” bore with 3.5 inch inward rolled tail pipe). I also chose to have a Starchip fitted with the hope of gaining some extra power (later rolling roaded at 179bhp @ 7290rpm). The car was now running very well and I felt it deserved to be badged correctly lol:
I used the car on Track for the first time at Rally Supercar Day @ Castle Combe in August. It performed well but I didn’t really get the chance to give it a good thrashing as I only had one session booked and a Mk1 Escort crashed, closing the circuit halfway through my session:
A few days later I was offered an immaculate half leather interior for not a lot of cash so I bought and fitted that. Along with some Sabelt harnesses in preparation for another up-coming trackday :
Attending EuroFest @ Castle Combe in September I had a much better opportunity to put the car through its paces. I was very happy with its performance and its reliability (except I topped up the oil and over filled it, resulting in lots of smoke for the first 2 laps…. Oops). Only points for concern being I could do with some adjustable suspension and I boiled my brake fluid, I plan to use synthetic next year:
Since then other than maintaining the car I have not really spent much money on it. I recently replaced the front fog lights with genuine Peugeot items, had the front and rear valances re-painted and an auto bonnet (with power bulge) fitted:
Here are some very recent pics of the car and how it is now. These were taken on a PistonHeads meet curtiousy of Mason/Domintry on 31/12/06:
That’s it for now!! Please feel free to comment or ask questions.

Edit:- I’d also like to say a HUGE thanx to the following people: Mikey G who also owns www.starchipsolutions.com Tombo for the helping hand late into the nite, Cwmbran gearbox centre, Matt for the bodywork Andrew at www.roelands.co.uk for all their help during the conversion.

Indeed the 405 was a bargain, had to drive from S.Wales to east London to get it tho, took nearly 10hrs return journey

Dumped - It is commonly believed that a shortened inlet manifold loses torque at the middle of the rev range. I once seen a magazine article on this and using various cars with the different manifolds they could not find any great differences in power.
I have throttle bodies to go on soon anyway, so that manifold will no longer be required. It was shortened by a company called PR Performance
Yet again thanx for the comments

I`ll let you know when I hear of one
Shorter primaries will improve top end but loose out low down and visa versa.
Go for as longer to get low down torque

Looks great. I'm doing the same project on 2 of my 205s!
Thread to follow, but thought I'd have a read of other 205 projects first and see what you're all up to!
Looks great, a real transformation from what it was to what it is!
Well done, and keep updating as you mod it more!

Just thought i'd quickly update the thread.
Unfortunately the Pug recieved an unwanted modification on the weekend
Looks like a liner cracked and failed, the piston didnt run straight and got fired off into the head
Managed to source myslef a new engine today tho and work will soon be starting on that. That means i'm gonna hve to build it faster and stronger
