Default 08 Fiesta MK6 1.6 TDCI not starting after injector seal change

Hi,i've just been given a 2008 MK6 Fiesta 1.6 TDCI that wasn't running too well.Absolutely st.nk of diesel when driving so found a topic on here via google that suggested leaking injector seals.
That was certainly the case, ordered the parts and took it all apart, changed the offending seals and recut the seats.
I did two injectors and i'm 100% sure they went back in where they came from as i did one at the time.
Right, now got everything back together, not starting...
When cranking the EML stays on,no leaks anywhere, does it "just" need bleeding ?
From what i can find these are a b.stard to get going again ?
Thanks

I have read a few threads on them being a bugger to get started again which is the main reason I have avoided changing the fuel filter in my wife's fiesta.
I can't see you have done anything that would cause major problems apart from just bleeding it through.

Certainly sounds like air in the system. Is there a priming bulb near the filter? Try pumping that for a bit. Maybe try a bit of easy start?

It may do if the rail pressure is low, but I'm fairly sure the light stays on until it's running anyway.

Your really gonna need something to drag the fuel through via the return.

youll never get it to start without clearing the eml im afraid, they have a "roof" (run out of fuel) strategy to prevent fuel pump destruction.

remove fuel filter, fill with clean fuel.

using a hand primer suck the return line to the tank from the engine to suck through the system.

clear eml, will probably be fuel rail pressure low or insufficient or similar.

once you have physical fuel system pressure and no eml it should fire straight up.

Hmm,time to go and buy a primer bulb,my last focus had that but not this one.
Are you sure it needs the EML cleared before starting ?
The reason i ask is that while trying to start it it nearly fired up...
Guess i better get myself a diagnostics tool.

it'll nearly run or run for a few seconds then die out,
i had a focus 1.6 tdci took me a day to get to run properly after buying as a non runner.
they're renowned for filter blocking and people dont replace them due to them being a pig to do.

also had a mondeo do it and wouldnt start without clearing dtc from diagnostic fault memory

Ok,got a primer bulb, fitted a new fuel filter, filled it up and connected the primer bulb to the return pipe to suck out any air. That basically just sucked the fuel out of the filter and then just air ?
Any ideas ?
Also, what diagnostic equipment would you guys recommend ? I got OBD cables from previous cars but no Ford software.

Is there no a little plunger on the fuel filter housing like some of the pugeots have.

I foookin hate diesels and this is one of the reasons why everything is a fook on with them.

When i used to change fuel filters on transit connects i used an electric fuel pump 2 pipes attached to it. I put one pipe on the fuel feed out of the filter and the other end on the pipe that goes from the filter to the engine. Then i run the electric pump and crank the engine till the elecy pump sucks the fuel through then refit the pipe.

Fire it up on brake cleaner. Just don't use too much or it will rev it's head off.

A little update, went at it again, filled the filter again and kept on sucking air/fuel through with the bulb and managed to get air free fuel through.
Connected the return line back up to the filter and used a little tip i found somewhere on another forum which is to put ignition on for 10 sec then off for 10 sec, repeat 4-5 times and then crank it with full throttle.
Cranked it for about 10 sec and then she fired up,ran fine with my foot on the throttle for maybe 30 sec then i took my foot off and she died.
Did the whole process again, got her started and kept my foot on it for a minute and then she idled perfectly.
Will leave it til the morning and see how she behaves, but for now :
THANKS a lot guys,what a helpful forum

Sounds good! Even the smallest air bubble can make it cut out so when you take it for a run, take the priming bulb with you lol
