blacktop zetec reversed water pump market reserch

reversed

standard

Market research

Hi all just to give me an idea of numbers I've decided to do a little research so please help if you can.

If you would be interested in a reversed ( I.E. clockwise running direction ) blacktop zetec water pump complete or an impeller please use the poll above this post.
the impeller will be about £20 and the water pump around £60, this is not a definite price!

I will be posting this on every forum that I can so please only reply once!!!

many thanks and a happy new year to everyone.

Ivan

I thought you could change the pulley set up that changes the belt direction?

yes but that runs the pump clockwise I.E. backwards.
Some people have done this without any probs.
I'll post some pics when I workout how!

to do away with the long belt and idler pulley's and to simplify belt route. usually when you use a zetec for rear wheel drive.
give it a google, other search engines are available

So on my zetec turbo using a blacktop engine and water pump, is my pump pumping in the correct direction with a belt set up like in my very quickly created picture?

id say yes i take it that idler pulley is a afteemarket adition ?
the main reason is normally alternator location.. on both 2.0 silvertops and blacktops from the factory there rear mounted.. on a silvertop its a easy swap as the 1.6/1.8 in the fiesta's/escorts has from mounted alternators so the 1.6/1.8 water pump was revised to spin the other way.. on blacktops there isnt this option. rear mounted alternators are a pain to use on say a fiesta/escort due to room

Yes stu your set up is right. All the reverse pump does is do away with the top pulley so you can run the belt over the water pump and down to the alternator

Nice idea, I know a batch of these got made up some years ago. Making up the extra idler pulley seems to work for most people, but it is ugly. I had my Black Top block machined to fit a Silver Top water pump, which wasn't too hard.

Quicksilver Race Engines in America and IKE Engineering here in the UK both sold reversed water pump impellers for the Black Top at one time, though not sure if they are anymore. I assume due to lack of demand.

£20 for the impeller is a good price, I would have gone for one on my old engine. Most people seem happy to just fit the idler now though as it can be done for pennies.

They have started using blacktop zetec in stockcars, as they run no alternator the reverse impeller is needed. If you look you will see a picture of the imppeller, they do the extra idler setup also. Hope this helps.
