300 bhp cvh efi or mfi engine?
Hey guys I am looking for some opinions I am going to build a 300hp 16 cvh for my s2 I don't want this post to turn into a "go zetec" as I'm building a zetec for my fiesta and would like to keep the escort as a 1.6 I was wondering what everyone's opinions is on what engine to use as I have the mfi engine that is in the car at the minute stage 1 and I also have a near std t2 engine and loom that came out of my fiesta should I use the mfi engine and just convert that for management or use the efi engine and convert that to run a big turbo - I personally think it's 6 n 2'3's but I thought I'd ask the question before I get stuck in.

Odd questions for someone building a 300bhp cvh, have you just plucked the figure out of thin air? It will take quite a bit of money to make a reliable package. What is your planned spec ?

Not really a odd question to be honest as said I don't think there was any differences but I just wanted some opinions as I said, the 300 is a rough figure of what I would like and I know exactly what sort of costs is involved and it's not a issue

Well your fiesta engine will already have the cps if your gonna use a 36-1 trigger, fiesta head has injector cut outs on inlet ports. What is your rough planned spec?

Std crank,Ross racing pistons forged rods,I was going to send the head to nms to get the business done, over the box mani, custom inlet with a t34/t38,omex management etc I just want a gd solid package this is my 6th turbo but I've only ever ran mfi in the past I didn't know if it was to much hastle drilling the block to run a cps

I had a block machined years ago by a mate who is a engineer didn't take him long to do with all the equipment in the workshop. Good luck with your project

Good luck hope all goes well , don't start with efi block though there thin walked near the water pump and seem to wear Badley in the bores best to find if you can a s1 block there thicker on the water pump end speak to nms if there doing your head all will become clear regards Tim

Personally id avoid any 1600 cvh block if you want 300 bhp as Karl at NMS says himself they are nearly 30 years old and will quite often crack under high boost pressures.
Ive been chasing 300 bhp for a while now, reliability is the thing that will cost you the most. Good luck with your quest speaking to Karl is a good start

I would also say not to try it using a CVH block, as mentioned they crack too easily these days.
Happy to help if you do go for it of course but just worth bearing in mind as it's alot of money to spend only for the block to let go and ruin all your hard work.
Your spec is good for 300bhp with a NMS head and assuming the CR is suitable too.

I think the specs definitely a good start off package anyway and I will see how it gets on,I'm defo going for it with the 1.6 tho I always promised myself I'd build a proper cvh one day and never got round to it and my fiesta is getting zetec'do so F it lets get it done and see what happens haha

I wouldn't normally agree with a ZVH, but I do on this occasion, it'll give you a safer base to start with without fear of the block cracking. And as above, it'll look "right" under bonnet.
