you can go over on the points and still keep a licence but you can only do that once.

Reckon if you go there and plead your little heart out they will not ban but give you a shit load of points and fine - insurance will be a nightmare tho.

Me and my dad got caught doing 105 on the M1, was told by the coppers that 100 and over is a court appearance but I said that we were both being silly and that I needed my licence for my job so we got booked at 96 and both walked away with 3pts/Ł60 fine.

See thats what annoys me, if your license means that much to you then dont do anything to put it at risk?? Ive been banned before, totting up of points, all sp30's and some of them were pretty harsh, but people caught doing stupid things then go to court pleading they will loose there job, and there lives are over, they should have thought about that before they did 122 down a A road!!

Agreed but at the end of the day we all do silly things we shouldn't!, in this case it wasnt me.
However if it was you or myself we wouldn't go stand up in court and say hit me with it cause i know i was stupid!!!... your there to plea for NOT loosing your licence!

Funnily enough I was talking to a fella at work today and his missus got done on the M1 at 95mph, 3 points and a Ł60 fine!

By all accounts she was mega relieved 'cos her speedo was reading 110 at the time!!

The "I'll lose my job" defence is really shaky for two very good reasons:
If your licence is so important, you shouldn't risk it.
Case law relies on precedent - if this becomes an accepted defence many people would never be bannable.

Must be nice to be so controlled that you never break the speed limit, not even once, on second thoughts, I bet you've been over the speed limit more times today then I've been caught speeding, still, you get on that soap box and preach!
Right rich2302, i aint gonna preach to you cos i don't think your bright enough to understand it but i will just clarify a couple of things from your reply.

1) I don't care what you've been driving, bikes, cars, high performance, sports or whatever the fact is you've been driving for 5 years less than me and you've got 3 more speeding tickets than i have had - yes i got done for speeding when i was 18, so hard as it may be for you to grasp, unfortunately i am no saint. Every car that i have driven in the last 24 years - although i wouldn't call them high performance - has been easily capable of earning me a ban.
2) I haven't been over the speed limit once today as i haven't driven a car today.
3) Yes i do speed but i use a bit of intelligence when i'm doing it and as my driving record shows it seems to have paid off.

I got 3 points and a Ł60 fine for an average speed of 121.6 on a dual carraigeway back in 2001, was on 9 points at the time or so i thought so got banned for 6 moths for totting up.
the day i got my licence back i got given 3 points for a offence from before i was banned. turns out i was only on 6 points not 9 as the dvla hadn't issued the points!!!
