Default escort gti - engine problems

hi all i have a ford escort gti 1.8 zetec it has 75k and im getting problems.
-first of all its blue smoking when i push it up to about 6k rpm but it doesnt do it below this rpm, could it be rings? thought rings smoked all the time?
-sometimes souinds like its running on 3 cylinders? coil pack? i put new plugs and leads in it last night and it did it again today!
-hesitates when cold.

i have only had the car 2 weeks and im a bit annoyed as i want to go out and have fun rather than worry about it blowing up!!
if anyone can help i would appreciate it alot! or even anyone who could supply me with a new engine would be great! thanks

Hi Mate,
First thing I would do is an oil and filter change, the zetec is very fussy when it comes to engine oil, using the wrong grade will cause the valves to stick causing running problems. You need to run it on a good 5w 30 oil.
I cant guarantee this will solve your problem but at least its a cheap starting point.

Mike.
