i have just had my engine put back in my car after totally restoring the bodywork. it started first time and run for ten mins then was left. when it was tried again it would not start at all. it turns over, sparks and there is fuel there but it will not crack up. i had new valve stem seals and rockers fitted 2 years ago before i started to strip the car. the mechanic thinks that the piston pressure has caused the valves to stick open and not release, the top end has very little oil in it but he says it is not seized.anybody got any ideas
even though the car has been being rebuilt i still had the engine running every week prior to removing the engine to do the last bit of retoration in the engine bay and the car was driven to the garage to have the engine taken out (engine was taken out and refitted within 2 weeks) all levels topped up and checked prior to first start up of the car

i think they have, would this have allowed the car to start originally though because it was running with no problems for 10 mins, thanks for replying. the engine was taken out and then refitted, no mods have been done this time apart from a new clutch, this has been a 2 year project and i want the car on the road for feb if poss. the mechanic does all the work on my company vans so he is not a specialised rs mechanic but he knows his stuff
Sounds like you hydraulic tappets have had all the oil drain out of then, thus not opening and closing valve.
I would take them out and leave them over night in a can of fresh oil and put them back in and try it again and go from there.

he did mention about doing that and also he said about dropping the sump ? to turn it. i hope it is not serious. i was contemplating have the engine rebuilt earlier this year but my funds went on my wifes ivf treatment, when i get it on the road i am going to book it in at a specialised place to have it set up right. it will be going to motorsport developments as it is only half an hours drive from me.
