Default Rear diff removal hints?

Could use some hints on how to remove the rear diff.

Im replacing the oil in it but the bolts to the lid wont come loose and I cant get enough space to open a can of whoopass on it so though I would remove it and show it i mean the business.

Guess i need to undo the rear axle and both driveshafts but how?

if you only want to get the oil out to change it, why not open the filler cap nut and suck it out using a long tube, will soon come out.

Saves all the messing about.

Want to do it properly and clean it out since its been in there for 14 years now.

Do i only undo the 4 bolts for the main driveshaft and the 6 torx on each side of the diff (rear driveshafts) and then just undo bolts thats holds it up?

calm doen, its only a comercial....

just done mine last week..

undo the 4 bolts which hold the diff hangar to the boot floor cross member with a trolley jack under the diff to carry the weight. undo the 2 x 17mm head bolts in the back of the hangar which bolt it to the diff back plate and remove the hangar.

drop the diff down on the trolley jack untill the beam supports its weight - it should be facing down at around 20 degrees. using a T50 torx bit remove the 10 bolts around the back plate and knock it with a rubber mallet to break the seal and allow the oil to run into a suitable catch tray. wipe out he bootom and clean as much of the fillings off the magnet in the filler as possible.

smear a thin bead of silicone around the back plate afeter cleaning both faces with some contact cleaner and fit it back up and fill with 1 litre of 75W90 fully syn gear oil. hth
