Default Sticky Valves

hi all hoping someone can help,

My mums got a 1996 escort 1.6 ghia saloon

she keeps having trouble with it when starting from cold

Ive changed the maf sensor but this made no difference, she took it to a garage who told her it was a sticky valve.

Just wondering how much of problem is this to replace ??

All help will be appreciated

Thanks

try changing the oil to fully synthetic. when i first got my fiesta, i put normal oil in it and it ended up with the same problem when cold. quick oil change and it was cured.

IIRC the Zetec oil grade is something like 5w30 and it's thin for this reason (sticking valves).

dazc is right the correct oil is 5W30 also use a flush before you change the oil it can often help cure the problem , also dont rule out the ignition system check your plugs leads and coil pack they might be getting damp overnight i always check the compressions when the plugs are out on zetecs with starting/running problems
