Default Escort GTi IDLE PROBLEM

Hi! Just bought a 97 GTi 85k f.s.h. Whether hot or cold it idles around 2000 revs, sometimes dropping to 900 if you blip the throttle, but not always. Anyone tell me what the problem is? Thanks.
