just done the headgasket on my S2. after finishing it, i go to start it, it starts......ish. wont tick over and appears to be running on 2 or 3 cylinders. i have changed the plugs with brand new NGK's, the timing has been checked, checked, and checked again, all sensors appear to be connected.
just basically looking for ideas on what else i could check for.......

A few things i would check....
check ht leads are in the right position on the dizzy cap...
check dizzy cap and rotor arm
check compression is equal between cylinders
HTH

if an injector isn't misting it will soak the plug and it won't fire....
you could pull the injectors bridge the fuel pump and use the flap on the metering unit to see if they are misting or jetting...
they also shouldn't leak when the flap is up with the pump running...
something to try that don't cost anything anyways...

HI,
Check all your hoses from the metering unit, to turbo, to intercooler,
to cross over pipe, to throttle body, are all tight and that you dont have any vacuum leaks anywhere, also make sure sensor connectors are on the correct sensors lacation,
DAVE R. motorvation RS. wales.

Had same problem with my series 2 mate but after taking off rocker cover and gettting me mate to crank it over, found out that 1 of the rocker arm stud threads had gone on the inlet side. Therefore the valve was stuck closed, found it easier to change the head. put it back together job sorted.
Don't ask me how it stripped them not sure to this day,but a mate of mine said he had the same problem. May not be in your case but hey just thought id let ya know

ht leads are definately not on in the wrong order. my cousin, whos an experienced mechanic has confirmed this.
the reason the gasket was changed, was because it blew. as far as i know, no other damage was done mate. it was running sweetly before it went.
i have noticed there is a black plug coming from the loom at the back of the inlet and there doesnt seem to be anywhere for it to go. any ideas???

hmmm, i'll have to have another look tomorrow. i have 3 connected behind the inlet just now. a blue, a brown, and a yellow are all connected behind the manifold and a green one on the side and i couldnt see space for anymore. i must have one on the wrong bit. i did check the colour of the wiring against the haynes manual before putting the sensors on though...

hmmm, just had a look at it, and on the back, i have a blue connector, a yellow connector, and 2 black connectors. i can only see space for 3 connectors, so feck knows where the 4th one goes. has anyone got a pic of their inlet with the connectors marked?

Can anyone out there shed some light on a few questions i have.
I want to do a turbo conversion on my 1990 xr2i.
I was told by a guy at fiesta frenzy that i can use my engine and management if i change the pistons, ECU, MAP sensor and a few little tweeks on the wiring loom.
Also can i use my rods and crank, anyone help me i would be gratefull.

UPDATE!!!
Sensors are all connected correctly now, but the car still doesnt want to run. Compression is fine. Timing is fine. Ignition is fine. We have a spark, all 4 plugs. The car seems to be over-fuelling. Its stinking of petrol and reeking blue smoke. Any ideas???

fuel pump seems to be fine. also, it was fine before the headgasket went. i'm kinda starting to think it could be maybe the coil. the spark might not be as strong as it should be. any more ideas?

just an idea but my s2 wouldnt start for love nor money and when it did all it done was smoke and a very reliable source told me to unplug the cold start valve and leave it unplugged and i havent had any trouble since. It was just throwing in too much fuel, worth a go on yours.
