Default Compomotive MO's - Clio 172 Cup

Righto prob a bit of a strange question on a Ford forum but herego's

Mate of mine has just bought a set of 5-spoke Mo's for his Clio 172 Cup off e-bay, unfortunately they don't fit!

He's just found out that the offset isn't right, his car runs 42mm and the wheels are 35mm, he's been told that he can get spacers to solve the problem, is that right? Or is he better off selling them on?

The wheel details are as follows:-

Size: 17" and 8J (width)

Tyres: 205 40 17

Offset: 35 ET

Problem: The wheel will not go over the centre cap of the hub, thinking that
will need spacers to adapt the offset difference

Any help is much appreciated

Spacers will make the offset WORSE, as in it will get lower than ET35. Obviously who-ever told him about spacers hasn't a clue. The only way he could achieve an ET42 offset would be to have material REMOVED from the wheel.

Thanks fellas, Im not at all technical but neither are the guys that gave him the advice so thought I'd check

Having material removed from the wheels sounds extreme to a simpleton like me, is that something you would recommend or should he just get rid in your opinion?

if the wheel wont go over the centre cap of the hub then getting the offset right will be the least of your worries as he will have to do something to physically get the rim on (i.e open up the centre bore of the wheel) before milling the back of the rim to increase the offset.

if i am understanding you correctly then the centre bore (called pilot diameter in this pic) is too small yes?
