iv just went to change the phase sensor on my saff cos and the old one was that fucked one of the wires had corroded away,iv just replaced it with a brand new one and when i fired the car up it idles at over 2000,after i rev it it drops to 1000rpm then goes back up to 2000rpm.
It's like setting points.
Look at the shaft and you'll see 2 lugs on it, turn engine over until one of the lugs is in line with the phase sensor pick-up. the gap should be between 0.2 - 0.3 mm. If you can use plastic feelers as the sensor uses magnetism and metal blades may effect it (I have used them though).
If this doesn't cure it check you've got the wiring plug the right way round, although they usually don't start the wrong way round.

if it starts runs fine then after a few secons revs up to about 2K it could very well be the TPS out of ajustment, it shuold be in the middle of the elongated holes , and at the ecu with ignition on you should get 0.25 to 0.3 volts dc (assuming its a 4x4 PF09 sensor)
