i'n investigating a noise in my 2wd cossie engine, is it possible for the valves to be tapping the pistons when the engine is running even though the engine turns easy anf free when turned by hand?

yes they can if timed up wrongly as they can clip the tops of the pistons on hard reving when timed up correctly if that makes sense to you!
yes but the timing marks are lined up perfect. and i even put a different whole bottom end in and it'a still doing it
Is it making the same noise that your OLD engine was making then SO it would point to the head then(if thats the same one you using) if it's hitting the pistons,has the head been skimmed TOO much!
well the head is new too, the noise came with the old engine,then i changed the head and it still there then i changed the whole bottom end and the noise still there. there is not one bit of the original engine left. but tthe noise still there.
it has to be something to do with the timing but who the hell knows what
Is it timed like this?
1: cam pulleys should be pointing towards each other.
2:rotor arm pointing towards the pointer for number 1 cylinder in the dissy.
3:crank pulley use the lug nearest the "V" (1 to the left) on the crank pulley.
