Default valves and pistons

i'n investigating a noise in my 2wd cossie engine, is it possible for the valves to be tapping the pistons when the engine is running even though the engine turns easy anf free when turned by hand?
cheers 4 any help

yes they can if timed up wrongly as they can clip the tops of the pistons on hard reving when timed up correctly if that makes sense to you!

Is it making the same noise that your OLD engine was making then SO it would point to the head then(if thats the same one you using) if it's hitting the pistons, has the head been skimmed TOO much!

Is it timed like this?
1: cam pulleys should be pointing towards each other.
2:rotor arm pointing towards the pointer for number 1 cylinder in the dissy.
3:crank pulley use the lug nearest the "V" (1 to the left) on the crank pulley.
