What is the purple and black wire on xr2i fusebox pls
Can anyone tell me what the extra fuses in the white holders attached to the fusebox on my '91 xr2i are? 2 of them have black and purple wires coming out. If anyone can put up a wiring diagram that would be great. Reason being I am trying to put it back to normal, a couple of the wires have been cut and I need to know if they relate to my lack of engine spark. Thanks!

Thats weird, cos I have access to a scrap one (facelift dash model, 1.1) and there is no sign of these extra fuse add ons which made me think they were special to the higher models such as my 2i. You are probably right, just that these are thick wires, there are 2 fuses with 2 heavy guage purple and black wires on each fuse. Then I have a mystery black and purple normal guage wire coming from the loom. This has been cut and I cant find where from, and I'm worried it may be the cause of the cars utter refusal to spark! If you are right and its indeed the wipers, I wont need to worry regarding getting her running.

well i know with a 3i loom (mfi) so similar i believe, the fuse holder, does indeed hold the fuse for the wipers (two wires going to this). I also have a thick seperate purple and black wire with a metal 'clip' on the end but this doesnt go anywhere as far as i can see, had my dash out a few times and still have never found out where it went, lol.
hope that helps and good luck with the car

Cheers! I was in two minds whether the metal 'clip' was supposed to be connected to any other wire or if it was just a junction point. I will try the wipers and pull that fuse out to see what happens. I now have a thin purple/black wire hanging down unconnected though if its not supposed to be connected to this metal joiner, if anyone has a wiring diagram regarding this part of the fiesta efi loom that would be great. I am replacing the underbonnet part of the ignition loom tomorrow so i'll be able to rule that out, that leaves the dodgy wires to the fusebox to sort and hopefully the damn thing might spark

cheers, the car has never made a spark since i got it and just about everything has been replaced, if my new underbonnet ignition loom doesnt do the trick it'll be the rest of the loom getting replaced as well, thats got to be the culprit if theres no joy tomorrow when i fit bonnet loom. Think i'll get a haynes for the wiring diagram too

according to the haynes manual diagram 3a (RS and XR models) black and violet (or purple to normal people) is for the front and rear wipers on a 2i and rs turbo they both plug into a black wire which come from the ignition switch..... hope this helps and yes i was bored enough to go and dig the haynes manual out....

Top man
Although that now means I'm back to square 1 regarding the lack of spark. Man, I really feel like giving up now, fitted my new piece of loom and still nothing This fiesta is sailing mighty close to the wind now, my patience is running out

refering back to the haynes manual once more the crank sensor has two wires blue green and blue yellow that go to the ignition module. (the black box that is normally located on the bulkhead). If you have spare one of those try changing that. My mate had an efi cabriolet that the module packed up on......
and once again good luck

Cheers you are quite right but have already tried replacing everything under the bonnet now, loom, crank sensor, coil pack, edis module. Next step I think is to replace the main loom, thats surely gotta make it spark!

mate it sounds like you are missing a wire somewhere.
there is a little brown wire i believe that goes to the earth on the battery, its very important wire.
also there is an earth to the chassis fron the battery.
there is a earth to the chassis from the ecu too i believe.
sounds tho the ecu aint switching on properly.
what about the little black wire that goes to the grey box on the coil pack?

I am sure all earths are present cos I only just replaced that part of the loom the other day, 1 earth bolted to battery and another bolted to inner wing on opposite side. but my coil pack has a multiplug with 3 wires, doesn't seem to be a seperate black wire on it anywhere. Although the middle wire on the plug is black

gearbox grounded?
edit: dont know if it would make a huge difference on spark but hell its an idea, lol
Also,is it running on diz or coil pack?
if dizzee you have plugged in the amplifier? and is the coil producing a spark to the diz?

Dont know without looking! Thats something to check. Although the car did initially just stop running one day long before I had it, thats what baffles me. If it had been worked on and then didnt run it would obviously be something disturbed, but to just pack up one day makes me baffled! So whatever my problem is, its what caused it to break down in the first place rather than something I've not put back etc
