hi, new here but anyway, i was wondering for an answer to a question to which most people dont seem to answer - would a cat back system / removing the middle box from your car/my car affect teh engine as much to as over fueling or blow it up?

My eninge is a 1.6 16v zetec, 90bhp...

Im asking as most people jus say either it'll be fine or it'll blow it up....Im not entirely sure that it would blow up or would it cause damage in the long run???

NO it wont cause any damage as the cat is just there to improve fuel comsumption,and convert the unwanted harmful gases into natural ones,anyway if you take the cat off you will see a better throttle response and a more improved flow and may see an extra 5-7bhp with a help of a decent panel filter,not a cone as these will not make any difference in power just give a loud induction roar!!!

 

If you blow it up by taking the cat out it will be the first one EVER as above all the cat duz is change the harmful gas into natural ones it will improve the perfomance but you will need to put it back on for the M.O.T so keep hold of it

 

ive kept hold of my cat, for the mot, but my question was more of removing the middle box... would that cause any damage, as long as the cats left in, plus i have a straight thru back box rather then an actual box with an exit, but havee a peco powermaster sat in my room 4 spares...

What panel filter do yuo recommend.. im currently using a K&N57i cone.....maybe soon to be changed...

 

Take the cat out and the middle box and put the peco on you cant really cause any damage by changing the system . i'd stick with the cone fillter but if you want to change it then get a K&N panel filter it will be loud when you have taken the boxes out.

 

ive got a GTi mid section to which im going to remove the middle box and get the peco to fit to, then jus swap em over as n when please i guess, mainly for MOT really, cheers for ya's help
