Default problem cutting out.

i have a 1.6 8v efi and have just fitted a top fast road cam kit, when i come to junctions the revs drop right down to about 400-500 rpm and sometimes it cuts out. could it be a sensor problem? any help would be appreciated

idle speed control valve could be a problem looks like a small tube with a blue ford sticker on it may be located on the inlet manifold or it may be on the air box itself on later cars

The VSS sensor can cause this problem, try reading the error codes.

the idle control valve is'nt on the air box anymore, it's been cut off so a cone filter could be put on, could this be the problem? should there have been an adapter of some sort? i would'nt know cos it was like that when i bought the car.

no i think you still have the idle valve there but you are looking at it properly. Look at the inlet manifold where it says "EFI" then to the left of that there should be the idle valve that looks like a tube with a blue sticker on it. I had a orion efi with a fast road cam and it always idled rough but shouldnt cut out though. Maybe you could take a pic of your engine bay and we might be able to point it out for you

Did you try what i said with the butterfly in the inlet manifold cos when i had the problem i changed everything ecu--idle valve--cps sensor--fule cutoff switch--ignition module everything i thought it would be and in the end it was that butterfly plate i know it sound stupid but give it a go and see i spent shit loads of money before i gave it a go now i wish i'd tryed that first pm me and let me know how you get on.

i have arrowed it but perhaps you should try cleaning inlet manifold first. To clean the idle valve you need to take the 2 screws off that hold it together but be careful not to tear the gasket apart as i dont think they are available anymore so you will have to use the same one and give it a clean out with some carb cleaner.
