Also has anybody fitted new seals to the diff? Is it a major task??

depends which seal,there is one seal which is similar to a front crank shaft oil seal and it seals between the inner cv cup and the case and its easy enough.
the other seal needs the diff bearing retainer cup removed to replace and this could require setting up the the backlash on the diff,special tools etc
