Running hot...Any Tips???
My Sapph 4x4 engine is running at about 98degrees today, im using the correct ratio of coolant to water plus Water Wetter added.
Any idea's how i can improve the cooling without fitting a new rad?
What about the Thermostat?
I assume once it has reached its temp and is fully open is it restictive by much?
Would there be any benefit in drilling some bypass holes or running without the stat at all?
Any advice...

fit a fook big fan and one of these

adjustable from 70 deg to 120deg, set it to 75ish and you should be fine
i got a bigger rad than your probably using but mine never goes over 85 with one of these fitted

Read my reply above...Ive got seperate gauges.... NOT the standard one.
Thats why i know it is 98degrees
My fans cut it at about 75degrees but thats adjustable

cos rush - i think ya car is a dax rush right? well the problem is frontal area and heavy right foot. the rads dax offer for the rush are limited in their ability to dissipate heat from the the engine for the following reasons:
1) small frontal area of radiator (try and find another car with a bhp potential of 350-400 with a tiny rad like the rush!)
2) proximity of the rad to other bits in the engine ie rad is partially covered by chassis rails etc (even worse in mine as its 4wd and the dif is there)
3) poor general airflow through the engine department because there is no where for the air to go from the rad and the i/cooler. dax's scoop thingy is a gimick. duncan cowpers car had large vertical side vents on each side of the car at the rear of the engine bay to help
dax recken that the newer alloy rad is 30% more efficient than the old one. ive got both and not convinced. the new ones are made by dockwray engineering in silverstone.

pgt,
Thanks for the reply.
You're right about the design problems, but i know several others who haven't had cooling issues and there's are 330bhp+ whereas mine is still standard
Ive seen the nice 4 row rad Pace makes, but that means more money.
Have you had any problems with cooling?
How have you plumbed yours?

cosrush - have not fitted ally rad yet cos i just took the motor apart (didn't need to really but kept me busy and out of the supermarkets and furniture stores for the winter lol - now 7.2cr cosworth pistons / ported head / greys/ t35 - t4 / cams / long studded block etc ) done 100 miles so far! when its done about 500 i'll put the other rad on but to B honest i dont think it will help a lot. my car was only running about 300bhp last year and on the really hot days the thing was cooking. still say that the air flow through the rush bonnet is the problem - in theory if you have a 2 litre mega turbo car idling it shouldnt run any hotter than a 2 litre non turbo but of course just after you have slowed down you might have shed loads of heat around to dissipate. anyway the rad still is much smaller than most 2 litre cars' (and you cant get the airflow throgh the engine bay|)
You're right in what you...
Ive got the 5 bonnet slots, plus the intercooler slot, and flared side arches....
Although, having checked yesterday someone has suggested it could be the thermostat...
I found,
The top hose hose HOT (possibly from conduction)
Top 2 inches of rad HOT
Rest of radiator COLD
Fan cuts in and blows COLD air off the rad
Bottom hose is COLD
Might try with out the stat and see if it makes a difference before i shellout STUPID money for the 4x4 Thermostat...
