Take off the intake hose and ehxaust and check for oil in those places. Also check how is your breather system. Is it connected to the intake? If not those two you probably have to go to somebody who build it and kill him

for arguments sake, say you'd removed the top ring of 1 piston to check the clearance in the bore, and you'd put it back on upside down, would that cause a lot of smoke when revving up after being on idle?

mine does that, but does not smoke on boost or on the overrun or anything. if that is the case, would you expect it to get better as you put more miles on the engine and wear the ring in?

unfortunately if its smoking and you have put a ring in the wrong way its not going to get better as its trying to scrape the oil up the bore instead of down it

can you get such bad smoke from just one top ring the wrong way up though?

won't the ring wear in at all? or are they so much harder than the bore?

what spec is the engine???? if its rings they will smoke when you accelerate hard, not just on idle, it might just be running a bit rich on the top end and after you have poodled it home after a good hard blast she may just be a bit sooty and thats what your seeing
find out if its definatly oil first.......whip the plugs out if they are black and oily..its fooked, if they are black and sooty, get a tuner to check the fuelling for you
