Default engine conversion mk6 escort

hope this is in the right place its been 12 years since I was last on a forum good to see they still run

I have a 3 door mk6 escort main reason I brought it low millage 12 months mot and not a spot of rust to be found and never welded
biggest let down its a 1.4 cvh/efi but the solid car was what made me buy it

what are my options for engines and difficulty its a daily so anything I do I have a weekend to do
1.6 cvh engine with inlet injectors and ecu or
I have a donor zetec mk6 only running a 1.6 but its not going to cost me anything to do but im unsure as can do all mechanical work but electrics never really had to do apart from repair damaged looms I guess I could strip both cars and swap the entire loom from one to the other iv heard stories of the looms unplugging in the bay and fuse box to ecu but I don't know what to belive from facebook, all most do is moan sayin the 1.6 is a rubbish engine that is true but I have one running perfect and low millage so for the cost being £0 I will use it then once im happy I can swap again as a simple job

sorry about the long post but I need to get as much info as poss or im just going to have to sell it and iv been after a 3 door for so long after my si was lost to rust and bad repairs by previous owners

TBH going from 1.4 zetec to 1.6 is a waste of effort. The gains are minimal and its just not tuneable going forward.

I'd hold out and put a weekend aside to chuck a 1.8 or 2.0 in

Yep as above the 1.6 is not with the effort but it's useful for parts. It was only 90ps and with small ports its a sideways move not an upgrade.
Find a 2.0 silvertop and use the bits from the 1.6 to help bolt it in.

I agree completely it was slow my aim is 1.8gti or the 2.0 I was only using the 1.6 as a base to do a zetec conversion as I have one in my old car and was very reliable as I'm not too sure on the wireing I can put the engine in in a morning with removing the old easy work for me iv done engine swaps before but they where just zetec to zetec

Just go straight for a 2.0 Mondeo unit. Easy conversion on any mk6 Zetec car

2.0 silvertop from a Mondeo- drops straight in. Just change the flywheel and sump/oil pickup for the 1.6 (or 1.8) units.

1.6ECU will run the 2.0 also.
