Default Engine conversion

Hi all I'm new to the Ford scene been a vauxhall/vw man for the last 15 years and after spotting my 88 orion ghia that I bought in December on ebay I want to ditch the carbed cvh lump for something better I've looked at the rs2000 set up but it means butchering the bonnet so what's the best engine to go for? I need all the help I can get for what Mount's gearboxes shafts and what brakes I can swap for my standard ones. I will be upgrading to 15 Sierra wheels at some point and any help with how to wire the loom in will be much appreciated as I will be doing all the work myself.

2.0 Zetec would have been done lots before so there will be loads of info on here. St170 and focus Rs won't be any harder and power goes up with price.

Lots of info here https://passionford.com/forum/ford-e...onversion.html

You would probably be better off fitting a 1.8 silvertop zetec engine from a mk6 escort as they fit in really easy, fit some bike carbs and either a megajolt, nodiz or omex 200 ecu and away you go. Brake wise either Cosworth 2wd callipers for 15 inch wheels or st170 ones with 16 inch with discs to suit or spend lots of cash see the thread "St 170 breaks - what wheels?"

I'm not into running bike cards or bodies as I want to run it as a reliable daily with a bit of poke. I'm thinking the 15 inch Sierra lattice wheelw

There is no replacement for displacement, get a 2.0 and have done with it. Silvertop will be easier to fit but getting one won't.

You could install an st170 or standard Zetec with Oem bits like inlet and ecu. Pats Immobilizer isn't hard to use. For Ł500 but it will take some work making bits. But you won't turbo it for that money.

Wiring info.

I've got no intention of going for turbo set up just want a 2.0 16v lump that's reliable and good on fuel the only thing I struggle with is fabricating engine mounts etc and I will need a wiring guide or diagram for help with wiring it all in. I used to do vauxhall and vw's with my eyes shut the joys of trying something different lol

Hello again,
going for fuel injection will mean you changing the fuel tank, pump and lines so that's the first Ł100 of your budget gone. The mk1 mondy engine is a silvertop and if my memory is correct you need to change the sump and pick up from the 1.8 escort engine you may also have to do this to the later blacktop, please check this before buying anything, if you have to buy a 1.8 then why not fit it, get it running and if you need more power then fit cams and ho inlet for the same bhp as the 2.0? also if the memory is holding the 1.8 is lighter and suits the car better

Yeah I know about the tank and I've got injection pumps in the shelf I'm my workshop as well as 9mm copper fuel lines. I'm only looking at mondeos as they are cheep and can be had for 300 or less

Use an xr3i tank a fuel pump, wiring to pump and relay to the pump. The wiring is only 9 wires and a to relay to the ecu

I have put one in a fiesta mk2 and also a escort mk 4 with out cutting the bonnet or the bay.
