Default colorado red ,,,,why does it have lacquer on top ??

Hi as above why does ford feel the need to lacquer over the top of a solid color ? is it to stop the paint fading ?
I have a fiesta st 150 colorado red and a focus st225 also the same color and both front bumbers have bad peel, the focus has next to no lacquer left on the front bumper and rear is getting bad
Would i be safe anuff just to paint them with 2k colorado red with out clear coat ?

yes 2k is a solid gloss finish and much more forgiving you can pile it on and flatten the hell out of it for a nice finish

im a painter and 2k lacquer is the same stuff as 2k solid so the myth of fading is a myth. it was the oxide in old red paint that was prone to fading

Not quite the same issue, but when I've sprayed stuff in performance blue it doesn't have the same gloss or depth until I've gone over with lacquer, though it's metallic so that maybe why.

Could you wet sand sand the remaining lacquer off and then polish?

As I'm a retired painter. Yes you can flatten back the laquer and polish it up.
Most colours are base and clear nowadays as they trying to phase out 2k paints
They tried water base laquer a few years back sure it was Peugeot /citreon. Maybe wrong though. But bird crap was eating through the laquer so they had to re spray the cars. So collerado red is a base and clear nowadays as 2k is being phased out voc levels etc etc.

Thanks for the info guys ,i will try and give them a polish up, bird shit was defiantly to blame for the focus as my mate that i bought it from lives next to a fish factory and the thing was always coverd in flying rats shit but funny how its only the bumpers unless they have been repainted at some point with crap paint. the fiesta has had another front bumper fitted at some point and thats the only place that she is flaking at.
