Default key problem

Hi all,
hope someone can help?
I have just purchased an 08 plate Fiesta which has 2 keys, the 3 button one and a plain one with the blue cap,(master?).
The 3 button one works fine but the blue one will not start the car, I just get the red flashing light.
I'm assuming that the "master" is not programmed to the car, which is a real problem?
I really want a spare for peace of mind so what options do I have and am I looking at a huge outlay?
Many thanks to anyone that can help.

Fairly sure the remote key is the master. Sounds like it isn't programmed. Does it unlock the doors?

Yeah, the 3 button remote unlocks the doors, tailgate and starts the car. It's the other one that is the problem. This key doesn't have any remote buttons, it's just a plain black one.

Has it got a blue chip on top of the key? The key is not programed to vehicle, has to be programed by a professional
