Default 02' Mk 6 fiesta gem unit help!

Hey all! Need some help with a new gem unit on our '02 5door festa! Our car didn't come with remote central locking or an alarm and the misses would like remote locking, so looked into it and saw that we needed a different gem unit. We got a remote key for it aswell and Went and got what we thought would be the right unit from a scrappie, fitted it yesterday, fantastic, all worked straight after i fitted it! Done the learning mode, programmed the remote key, everything unlocked and locked, all the electrics worked, hazards, aircon, elec windows, rear boot release, everything! Misses got up this morning to go to work, remote didn't work so she unlocked the car with the key, as soon as she opened the door the hazards started to flash and didn't stop until i got back from dropping her to work and disconnected the battery! It's like the, non existent, alarm was going off without the noise! The car still starts and drives, but the remote fob didn't work, the hazards keep flashing. Any suggestions?

Here's our original gem off the car

Here's the 'new' remote locking gem unit

Cheers people!

Yeah, brand new battery. It won't go into learning mode! The hazards just flash, and the remote doesn't work. The 'new' gem was off a 5 door '54 plate ghia. I've had to put the original unit back in for now so she can drive it! Cheers for the reply mate!

your welcome I don`t know the ins and outs and it seems strange it works for 1 day only, I think you can train your keyfob to the car , look into that

Sorry, yeah did the learning mode when i first fitted the unit yesterday, it did the warning beep, i hit a button on the remote and it beeped again to confirm the fob was recognised, tested it all, and it all worked lovely, then this morning playing right up!

what I mean is this,
on my focus it is possible to add another keyfob to my existing unit
so the box you purchased may not be needed, your car with the original gem box "might" adopt a new fob , look into that

Ah, right, get ya now. But no, the old gem unit hasn't got the remote capability! Hence the new unit. We only had a plain, non remote key for the car, and looking the build sheet up for the car, it was ordered without the remote unit and without the alarm amongst other things! Cheers for the suggestions though!

I'd suggest the the new gem has an alarm function, it maybe able to be configured with IDS to remove the alarm function.

But without plugging it in and checking I wouldn't be able to say for sure.

I once had a look at a Fiesta ST that was configured for LHD and with auto wipers and lights, which it didn't have!

Even replaced the gem and configured to RHD and without the auto wipers/lights.

In the end the Ford field engineer had to come down (twice) and sort it out with the As built data as the upgrade to IDS had taken away the ability to do that..
