Yb oil temp gauge

Default Yb oil temp gauge

Hello in just about to install a oil temp gauge where is the best location to fit the sensor ? In the sump or maybe the oil pressure switch are .

The right place is the sump, but I put mine on the oil pressure switch block, along with the oil pressure gauge. It may not read correctly, but it is a lot easier to get the little block out, and thread it on a bench

I got a sump plug off eBay that the sensor screws into the middle on that's the best way if you don't won't to take the sump off and got a boss fitted

Ok thanks for the reply, just thinking the oil in the sump is the return side from engine . Once the oil has gone through pick up pipe ,oil filter ,oil cooler then to the main gallery is that the true temp of the oil that should be measured ? Maybe I'm wrong
I can fit sensor anywhere as i am rebuilding the engine ready for a mk1 escort project

Did that on mine, but I was lucky, the sump plug is some weird, non standard 'repair', done in the past. Was just big enough to drill and tap out to take the sensor....

my plug hole is standard size and I got a plug off eBay that's drilled and tapped up the middle for a sensor

Lol this was about 10 years ago, couldn't find a pre drilled plug iirc!? Either way, mines not a std thread, so i had to drill mine out!

yes mate the sump is the true oil temperature if your rebuilding the engine you mayaswel do it properly first time round.
