What's your thinking behind this. All BC boxes are front starter anyway.

Ib5 from a mk4 1.3 festa has rear starter.. Why not just use that box? I used it for years with my 2.0 supercharged fiesta and was ok... Until you get past 200 ish bhp and then it poo's itself.

Im putting a blacktop 2.0 inplace of a 1.7 with the ib5 box.

Is there a gearbox i can use that will bolt straight on to the engine and still use the ib5 mounts mentioned my Rick or do i have to put a bell housing onto an ib5 box?

The 1.7 box wont fit unless you change the bell housing

Ive heard a diesel box will fit, what was it fitted to originally?

I already have a 1.6se ib5 gearbox and the FRP one. if i cant find a bell housing to swap over i may search for a diesel one.

Another question, You using a 1 piece sump or 2 piece?

There is no such thing of you heard lol im using it as we speak lol.Im using a 2 piece sump I couldn't be arsed messing about with sumps and I don't see the need to change it when there is enough clearance anyway. My diesel box came off a 1.8 P reg fiesta. When I built mine up I just used the first gearbox I could get hold of.It was just abit of fun but I enjoy it a lot now. which is why I want to play with a petrol box.If Churtz was saying 200bhp is fine on a 1.3 box then that's good enough for me and his is supercharged.I did think about taking this to 300bhp on a turbo engine but now thinking about it I think 200bhp is suffient as a daily in a car so light.I think it has to be usable power.

Diesel gearbox are more reliable as people say.I how ever don't have a shred of evidence to back this up but I abuse my gearbox on the regs and it holds it fine. The question comes down to petrol boxes ie my mate had a mk2 fiesta with a 2 litre blacktop engine on 1.8 management and a 1.6 rst gearbox and all it did was spin and when it did grip I swear the speedo just flew round hit 140mph and carried on.We never found out what terminal speed was as there was no where to do.And with a mk2 fiesta being so dam light and not being caged or anything it was unsafe. So im think the ratios in the 1.3 are even shorter but would you lose top end speed. On another note from being in this mk2 fiesta I darnt think or should I say I carnt even begin to imgine what the hell a 2litre zetec turbo would do out there lol power to weight ratio wise.

Ratios aren't too bad in the 1.3 box. They aren't too short... Saying that, if it was damp if spin up in 4th when boost came (around 250bhp mk4 fez) in so I've now changed to mtx75 box.

1.7 box will bolt to a zetec engine as it has a standard ib5 bell housing. If you put a 1.8 silvertop pick up and sump on, then the ib5 bell housings will bolt up to the bottom two holes on that. I had a 1.7 box but I ruined it ... Main shaft bearings let go.

Would the gearbox run out of puff at high speeds ie top end?

Ive got the 2.0 sump on. You sure the 1.7 will go straight on? I thought the bolt pattern was different.

Im not sure what box we have in our mk2 fiesta, it has an open diff, rear starter but the ratios are spot on. On the dyno it made 196hp @ 6900rpm 124mph in 4th gear on 15" steelies.

Im going to have a bit of a look this week.

Ive got a 1.6 zetec se gearbox i may be using for parts.

Im using the black top 2.0 with the '2 piece sump' the one with a tin sump pan.

If the 1.6/ 1.7 se will bolt straight on that would be good and save a bit of messing. Im planning on splitting 2 boxes for ratios, the final drive and fit the LSD.

Been looking into different gearboxes tonight.

1.7 Puma box wont fit onto the Mondeo blacktop 2.0.
The 1.6 Zetec SE box also wont fit, both use a front mounted starter.

Diesel mk4 fiesta one also has front started but it mounted lower down.

Ka 1.3 box has a rear mounted starter but unsure on the bolt pattern. If its a match then i could use part of it.

I need one to fit the Mondeo lump and use the top gearbox mount. Rear mounted started

Idealy an IB5 box so i can use the same shafts. Is there a box that i can use or will i be splitting a couple and making one?

Hi I am new to this and maybe some one can explain what I can do

I have a Van Diemen Multisport which I have fitted a black top to running on bike crabs the engine is transverse in the rear canted over 30 degrees forward

It is mated to an early I think IB5 box with a front mounted starter I need to change it to a rear one due to the exhaust fouling on it I need to run the same mountings and linkage as it a special built item otherwise its a major refabricating

Any suggestions?

I am on a cable clutch and rod operated gear linkage

I could alter to hydraulic clutch

The car is pushing out about 170 BHP but weighs in at 600kg
