Hi im new to the site today, but not new to playing with rusty cars, a question. i need to know weither a 1997 p reg 1.6 escort saloon, is suitable to use as a replacement engine for a 2000 x reg escort 1.6 estate, both zetec i believe, i basically need a new engine, and this one has come up locally as a failed mot car on corroded sills, but the engine is low mileage at 54.000, and i know the owner so a deal could be done cheap for the whole car. i can borrow an engine crane locally and i have the tools for the job, but i need to know if the engine is compatible, the only difference i see is that the older donor car has mechanical dials as the newer one is electronic? please help me somebody and confirm if it will be a straight forward swap on not, once the engine is out the car i plan to scrap the rest of the donor car, again thanks for your help

Should be ok, just replace the engine not the gearbox so the speedo will be the same.

Is the p reg a silver top engine?im sure the x reg car would be a blacktop?

 

yes its a silver top, and i i think mine is indeed a blacktop, just been to look at the p reg car and i havnt bought it as it looks completely different, and says efi on the top, shitter guess im on the look out for a newer escort 1999 on i believe, thanks for the help guys. let me know if anyone has one for sale nearby!
