Last weekend I purchased an R reg Transit. Unfortunately the key is badly worn and I'm worried it might just stop working if it gets any worse.

I'm not sure whether to just buy a blank key and try and have it copied or to get a new lock set. If I just try and get it copied is the chip easy enough to swap over to the new key? Does the red tab just flick out and the chip comes out?

If I fit a new lock set is there a way of coding a new chipped key without going to the stealers?

i think if you bring it to your ford dealer with your logbook they will set you up with a new one from the chasis number

 

You should be able to just put the 'transponder' in a different key.
