hi guys, i hope someone can help, i have bought a mk3 escort convertable which has an orion 16v zetec engine in it, car has been ok uptill recently, when it started torefuse to start, then it got worse and just cut out then would start at all, i did the basic checks and was getting no spark so replaces coil pack and it started , i thought this was it but it is still cutting out while driving and refusing to start, all this is intermittant, one minute it starts and runs next it just cuts out mid drive and wont start or wontstart at all.please help, any advice pleaasee help !!

 

best off looking for a bad connection or a broken wire first as that might be the reason, if you have old coil pack plug it back in and check as it prob wasnt that in the first place, i know the imobilisers were shit as i had an onion done same thing ended up tracing imobiliser and bypassing it, iam local to you if you get stumped.

apart from a broken wire without lookin hard to tell, could be the maf sensor giving up? had a 1.6 zetec escort done same thing and that was the prob but i dont think it had a spark issue at same time,

 

i just dont know have been out to have another look and it now i think is proper broke which in one way is good coz now it wont start till it is fixed but i have to figure out the prob

cps they work themselves ive done loads of zetec mk3 mk4 conversions as above as well depends whos made loom up early looms were fine later ones had chip key so your chip key might be cable tied to transponder ring seen it done before mightve come away

 

i would come have a look but a lack of fuel and funds have put hold on me going anywhere, escortmk3rwd is right but if you insist yours hasnt an alarm or imob then it cannot be, easy check take off the plastic round steering wheel and have a look mine was tucked up above ignition with key taped to it. (handy!) have look in daylight

 

to recap on previous problem, i have changed coil pack searched for key taped to moduel (none) have now changed the cam sensor and i am still not getting any spark please help as i Soooooo want to drive my car again If it has got am imobiliser i am not aware of it , and cant see it, if we treat it as it hasnt what else could be stopping the spark ,,xxxxx

 

hi, have you looked near ecu and underdash? there isnt much else other than a possible broken wire. had a renault that kept being intermittent the other day and it was a bad earth, could try putting a jump lead on batterey earth and clamp other end to engine to see if it is a bad earth.

 

also make sure brain has earth were shooting in the dark as you have to have car infront of you to fix it to be honest

 

is hard to diagnose without looking,

 

yip plus dont know state looms in could have stray wire somewhere

 

i have redone earth strap, changed coil pack, tried new cam sensor and new crank shaft sensor, now i just want to cry i love this car but i do keep think about a box of matches lol
