Angry ford cougar v6 pats immobiliser.no start. solid light. HELP!!!

hello,

1999 ford cougar.

will not start. immobiliser will not switch off.
when ignition is on has solid red light.

has done this before and has been cured by disconnecting battery, bridging leads and waiting 15 mins.

will not work now.
battery in fob is good and tested.
i have removed the immobilser ecu to try and clear it but has not worked.
have used reprogram code below, but has not worked.
aa have been out and cannot start it, on their diagnosic it gives codes

b1213 pats number key programmed too low

b1601 key signal incorrect.

he recommends recovery to ford, which will cost me a load.

i don't really see how it can be the key as clearing the ecu has worked before?!

all help gratefully recieved.
cheers

Cougar (Radio 3 Button)

Procedure

1. Turn Ignition On (II) and Off (0) 4 times within 6 seconds

2. With the Ignition at 0 the PATS LED should light continuously.

3. Press any button on the Radio Remote within 10 seconds

4. The LED should flash to acknowledge

5. Further Remotes (max. 4) can be added by pressing any button.

6. Program mode will end if Ignition turned on, or no new Remote Detected within 10 seconds

NOTE : The first Cougars were 3 seconds instead of 6, and 20 seconds instead of 10.

The battery is for the radio, not the immobiliser, rather the key contains a "Transponder".

Do you not have a spare key you can try, it sounds to me as the key has lost it's 'partnership'.

Also I think you will have the older generation of "PATS", in which case you need the red 'master key'.

When you turn the ignition on the light is supposed to come on solid for about 10 seconds or so. I thought that if it registers a fault it will flash quickly.

removing the battery and bridging the terminals clears the ecu.
yes the key has a transponder, so do all the locks, there is also the immobiliser ecu and the engine ecu, they all have to 'talk' to each other.
no i only have one key.
its a 3 button remote so not the older ones like on a mk5 escort so i don't think it needs the red master.

its permanently solid with the ignition on run.

this is supposed indicate a missing earth connection, but so far i have not found one.

the flashing is after a minute with ignition off. not sure how to read them though, its seems to flash noramally to me!

where are you based? i have key programming equipment that also does immob fault reading. I also have Focom software

As for the reprogramming procedure you've done, that has nothing at all to do with the immob transponder. It's purely to sync the remote with the central locking

its now giving a fault code 5:1 after being solid for ages. which is the key so i have a bought another cougar key as you can only recode with 2 keys. a freind of a friend has the software and diagnostics so hopefully it will recode!

ok. to code the key in diagnostically it will either be 10mins timed access or give you an outcode. Then you will need to enter the corresponding incode. Not sure which it will be with a Cougar as i've never done a key for 1.

All the other older Fords i've done have been 10 mins timed access. So basically you just sit there for 10mins with the ignition turned on. My key programmer counts the time down on the display then tells you to cycle the new key in the ignition.

If it gives the outcode & he hasn't got any way of getting the correct incode or doesn't have any equipment that can bypass it then you're going to be stuck
