Default why is this fecked?

It's a injector clamp on a 1.7 cdti

On the other clamps there is 3-4 mm clearance. This one as you can see has been rubbing.

Has anyone had this before?

iv worked it out now. the monkey mechanic that had a go at it. by the looks of it fitted the injector without the top hat that the clamp sits on. and started it up, realised his mistake refitted it.

After some more investigation I found this.

Smashed piston

Due to using too much sealant to glue the sump.
The exsses broke off and got stuck in the oil pick up.

Some people amaze me with how far they take bridging stuff.

Ouch! - does that mean the 1st fault was due to it running dry of oil too?

the first fault was due to some dumb ass fitting the injector clamp without the little top hat.

there doesn't seem to be any sign of it running too low on oil. ie shells are fine although im changing them for good measure. cam shafts are fine, no blueing and there well within wear limits, (at last I got to use my micrometer in anger). no play in the mains or the small ends either. just the rings and pistons.

luckily iv got away with just honing the bores.

verdict
Ł280 new set of pistons with rings.
Ł35 new shells
Ł51 head gasket set
new oil filter, oil, anti freeze

fitting this weekend.

Replace the injector sleeve seals whilst its apart, they are a common problem on those
