Default C Max TDCi Black Smoke

I have just bought a Focus C Max Zetec 1.6 TDCi Manual. I have noticed when pulling away from junctions or up banks there is quite a lot of black smoke behind the car. There are no warning lights on the dash lit up. The car does seem to have a reasonable amount of power however I would not say it had as much as I expected as I have a partner van and 206 fitted with the same engine and they seem much more responsive.
Can anyone offer any info The C max has covered 91k.

Cheers Mike

I'm no mechanic mate but have had the egr valve go on 2 of my transits and our 2 litre c-max with similar symptoms to yours

All fixed under warranty thankfully

pull the air intake pipe off the turbo and see if the airbox is filled up with oil, also check the turbo while your there.

as these can cause black smoke as the turbo seizes and just over fuel's and backfills the airbox with oil.
