Default Duratec, st170 gearbox dimensions help

Hello there guys, my first post on this forum and I have a lot of questions

Right, I'm wanting to know what 6 speed fwd gearboxes mount up to the duratec engines? I would like to know if the st170 gearbox would?*

Also, anyone who has dimensions available for total width of engine and box would be great. I'm new to the ford scene but willing to learn.

It's an unusual project that I want to fit a duratec with 6 speed poss the 2.3l and turbocharged into my Peugeot 106. Space is an issue obviously but where there's a will there's a way

I'm talking about the all aluminium duratec btw

Cheers Dan

I'm all for suggestions, I do want to use a 6 speed box though.
Like I say I'm still learning with the ford stuff.

Cheers for the help

well the problem is with it even though the st170 was marked up as a duratec is not its a zetec-e engine with some mods, you could use the 6 speed out of the Mondeo mk3 2.0 SCi box that use's a real duratec engine so it would be a direct fit but im unsure if it will even go into a 106's engine bay.

Thanks for the info.
Do you know what model box is in the Mondeo sci? I need to be able to buy the nice bits like LSD and a gearkit.
If not then I will make an adaptor plate to fit the st170 6 speed.

The duratec isn't 'much' wider (from what I remember) than my pug unit as it doesn't use a can belt and the cam chain in much more compact.

I'm pretty good at shoehorning big engines into little cars, I used to work at Westfield sportcars.

Ther is a guy on one of the pug forums who's fitting a Zetec turbo to his 106 so if the duratec idea fails I'll go for something like that.

Sorry, I didn't explain correctly. What is the model of the gearbox? Getrag/ mtx75 etc etc.

The st170 box will not bolt straight onto a duratec.

The mk3 mondeo duratec uses a varient of the mtx75.

Is this variant you speak of a 6 speed? I suppose a gearkit would be difficult to get hold of?

No its a 5 speed.

Its the only strong gearbox that fits the duratec.

Use mk1 focus rs gears.

So there no proper 6 speed alternative?
How about the Mazda 3 mps gearbox?

If not then I'd contemplate making a bellhousing adaptor to fit the st170 gearbox

You could use a mps box but I dont know how strong they are or how big they are.

Does it have to have a six speed box ?
