As said the valve clearances (Tappets) most likely need adjusting, you will need a set of feeler gauges, it must be done with the engine cold!

For the correct clearance and the procedure you will need to refer to the manual , it's normally something like you check number 1 valve with number 8 shut.

Has it done it since the oil was changed?

Pinto's have a bad habbit of getting blocked spray bars. Then the cam is shot.

Ok if it's since you changed the oil. What grade did you put in. The pinto does not like new synthetic oils or even light grade oils. Especially an old higher mileage one.
If that's what you have done then at a guess the cam is scrap as the lobes will be gone.
You need to take the cover off and look.

Oh I see what you mean, yes only the manual can tell you the procedure and clearances, as they are unique to the engine!

I would use 10/40W or 15/50W but certainly nothing either side of these grades.

im not sure but could that be the reason?
maybe the thicker oil has maybe stuck/jammed the tappets?
