Escort rs turbo starting problem
Hi guys, I finally got round to fitting a new turbo on my car today. After being stood for a while, went on fine oil and filter changed then struck up first click, let it warm up then took her for a swift drive round the block, nearly. Got home and died..... Pushed her home and put her on charge as was flat as a pancake... Charged up went to strike up and starts for a second or 2 then just dies, this is all I can get any ideas folks any info muchly appreciated cheers.....
i assume you too the altinator off to remove the turbo? if so check you have put the all the wires on, should be 2 wores going on to the stud with the 7mm nut iirc, sounds like your altinators not being told to charge
I've not had the alternator off but think there is a problem with that, but I have charged the battery and there is power there as it starts now then just dies .... N is able to keep starting ...?????
all i can say is charge the batt an get a multi meter on the altinator to see where your problem is, does the battery light work on your car an if so is it on when the car is running? because if not its likely to be the remote wire an if so its likely to be the altinator
Check the wires from the starter to alternator in case you've disturbed them doing the turbo.
As above, does the battery light work ? If you earth the blue wire the light should be on.
When you say it dies, can you hear the fuel pump running?
Has it got a spark on cranking ?

It's got a spark and fuel there, it starts up no problem as I still have the charger attached, I'm not too worried about the alternator fault at the min just y it starts and dies after. Couple of secs last year it had new dizzy, leads plugs, also had a new fuel tank so checked out all the pipes on that and possibly only ha 4 or 5 fills out of that using decent fuel, I think it's a sensor as its telling it to die, throttle position sensor anyone? I tried taking the air filter off nd holding the flap down no luck and also removing the cold start switch plug and that didn't work either ....
Check fuel pump relay (pink relay under dash drivers side)
Why I asked if it has a spark is that when the distributor turns it activates the fuel pump relay basically.
Does pump prime when you key on? You need to see if the pump runs when you crank it.
I don't think the throttle sensor will stop it starting.
Has it got an aftermarket immobiliser?

I've tried a relay, I've tried a different coil, I've disconnected the alternator. Completely just to rule out weather there's a dead short but still no different starts up first click then dies after about 3 seconds ? Any other ideas lads would be much appreciated
Absolutely spot on.... It was the lowest pipe blew off wen I took for a run musta been on the piss or summat ..... And the alternator problem which I would have never though of was the bulb in the dash for the battery light if that's bulb is blown the alternator won't charge so remember that next time ppl check the bulb first
simple but effective
