Default transit bad starting

Ive got a 57 plate 2.4cdti transit in that is terrible at starting. its cranks and cranks then eventually fires up. if its cold or warm its the same. the fuel supply/filter seem okay,
there is 1 fault code stored which is PO403 EGR solenoid circuit resistance fault.
would this be the cause???
also where is it located?
many thanks
Jimmy

Default A couple of ideas

Why not try unplugging the EGR?ANd just another thing to check.Does it matter which way the van is facing up or down hill? Now you may think it is a daft thing to ask but if there is a slight leak in a fuel line then you will find that ALL of the cranking could be the van dragging the fuel back upto the motor.
Just a thought
