Default Fiesta RST Problems

Hi my mates frst is pretty knackered, but im not sure where to start. the main problem as far as i know is backpressure blowing the oil cap off, but it also ended up with clouds of smoke coming from the exhaust, and oil conimg out the dump valve, im going to strip all the pipework off it tomorrow and see if i can sort the back pressure problem, but i also want to know what else to look out for.

Dougie.

Sounds to me like the rings are knackered causing excess blow-by gas. This will pressurise the crank case and blow the oil cap off cap off. Will also be the cause of the smoke from the exhaust (could also be stem seals, turbo etc). The pressure will also be forcing excessive ammounts of oil through the breather and into the intake which is why there is oil coming out of the dump valve.

well you could do a compression test but unless the rings are really bad then it wont show to much the only way is to strip it mate hows the hoilday moonie

You can do a wet and dry compression test or take it to a grarage who will be able to carry out a cylinder leakage test (measures the cylinders sealing ability)

To do the compression test, first measure the compressions and write down the readings for each cylinder, next drop a few squirts of engine oil down the plug holes. Do a second compression test and if the the results are substantially higher with the oil then the rings are knackered (the oil seals the rings/bores)
