Default Orion 1600 cutting out problem

Hi, hoping someone can offer some help on this problem!

I have a 1989 1.6 Orion (carb fed with an auto choke) which constantly cuts out when starting up.
when cold starting, It will continue to run (a bit roughly) if you keep the throttle on but if you take your foot off it just dies. However.. if you keep it going until it reaches normal running temp then it will keep going on its own (again fairly lumpy/roughly). Have checked all ignition parts, plugs leads, renewed the igintion module, tested the fuel pump, substitused coil for another, checked wiring, earths etc, made sure there are no vacum hose leaks or obvious blockages in the carb and fuel line from the pump and it still does the same thing. all i can think of now is that the carb perhaps isnt set up properley?
Id be very grateful for any advice!

Yeah, i swapped the carb over with one from another engine today (which was known to be running ok) and it still seems to do the same thing
