Default oil warning light on

oil warning light has come on my s2 turbo, it runs quietly, no ratlles, smoke etc, changed the pressure switch but no joy, i've put a pressure gauge on and it has about 7psi on idle, and just over 1 bar at 2000rpm, the car has had a new oil pump fitted when the engine was re built, could it be a dodgy pump or something else? pick up pipe was also changed aswell, any help greatly appreciated, cheers

have you disconnected the switch?

does the light still come on?

if so, it's a wiring issue for the light as it should nly come on at around 5-7 psi, which is less than half a bar

but the pressure does seem low, should be around the 40-50 psi mark when cold, dropping to possibly 20-30 on idle when it's hot, but any throttle should see it rising again

if its disconnected the light is off, but the pressure is too low, i just dont see what could be causing it unless its a crap oil pump, the engine does run quiet but obviously i dont wana run it for long with low pressure.

sump off, check the pick up pipe first, then pump

when did you last change the oil?

has it got enough in it?

is it the correct pump for your engine and application?

etc

dont keep running it that low as it will die, it could be possible at that low of a pressure that it has allready started damaging the shells, get them checked before it spins one i would not be happy with anything less than 20 psi at idle, you usually find tho on rs turbos when the light comes on its allready too late knocking or not.
i suspect oil pump, is it a new build and did you charge the oil pump and pick up pipe with oil prior to starting as many dont and this tends to air lock the pump causing low pressure

put a brand new pump on it, cleaned out pick up pipe so it was nice and clean, i didnt run any oil through the pump though when i fitted it, i spun the engine over for a while with the king lead off, turned over ok, when it runs it runs quiet and if reved up abit the light goes out but stays on at idle, but the gauge is only showing about 1 bar at 2000 revs so i'm not gona run it any longer until its sorted, thinking i should have run oil through the pump first before fitting it.
