How are you bleeding the brakes..with a 1man bleed kit or...? Also what car is it. Front or rear brakes?

And I presume you've tried pumping the pedal?

sometimes when pushing the piston back in the calipers it can reverse the seal in the master cylinder was it ok before you fitted the new brakes

Exactly as said above, it sounds like you have 'Flipped' the master cylinder seals. This is why I bleed at the same time as I rewind the piston, so the pressure is not being reversed, this is what Haynes etc recommend as well.

If it is this, you have no option but to dismantle the master cylinder and relocate the seals, so far as I know.

If the brakes were fine before, why were you bothering to bleed them?

either renew the master cylinder or dismantle. when pushing pistons back i always open the bleed nipple i learnt the hard way as i flipped a seal in an amg merc and had to fit a new master cylinder at a cost of Ł380 pounds

Think i may have done the same when fitting new discs and pads.

Pedal is rock solid as normal if you press it hard, but if you press very lightly it'll eventually end up on the floor.

Was absolutely fine during track session at ford fair too, but had gotten slightly worse in the couple weeks after it started. Where's best for a rebuild kit?

AstoN_B, I work for a car smallish accessories company & no company do any repair kits for Master Cylinder anymore unless there maybe anything on ebay but I doubt it
