Exactly as said above, it sounds like you have 'Flipped' the master cylinder seals. This is why I bleed at the same time as I rewind the piston, so the pressure is not being reversed, this is what Haynes etc recommend as well.

If it is this, you have no option but to dismantle the master cylinder and relocate the seals, so far as I know.
