Default Sierra sapphire gearbox problem

i have a 1.6 pinto sierra here which i fitted a 2ltr pinto engine to
removed the gearbox just to get the engine in right

got the engine an all built up but i got a problem

on my box type 9

reverse is next to 1st ( press down and go into reverse )

since we changed the gearbox an built up again reverse is very close to 1st, now i've no need to press down to find reverse, it just slots in, very hard to get 1st without gettin reverse

any one know the problem? or how can i fix it? was fine before

can i fot the mt75 gearbox, or do i need to change alot of things to get that to work?

the nylon part of the gear stick is worn so go get another complete stick mechanism!

I have 4x4 Cosworth, problem with the gearbox. I was driving normally, and suddenly I noticed that 2nd and 4th gear don't work. As I press clutch down, I can put the gears on, but as soon as I realease the clutch, gear stick will bounce to N. I've heard the MT75 box isn't very good so is it broken? I can still use 1, 3, 5 and reverse though.

Just addition: my viscous coupling is also damaged as the guy noticed in rolling road. Front wheels don't spin as much as they should. Does it have anything to do with this?

Thanks in advance.

it sound like the selector is worn, very common there is an uprated billet selector you can use. It will stay in reverse because of the gate and spring inside the box.

Yep, it might be some mechanism which holds the gear. I've tried again, and now I manage to select 2nd gear, and gear will stay at 2nd. I can select 4th gear also and drive with it, if I hold the gear stick at 4th. But without holding the stick, 4th gear will bounce to N. I will remove the gear box from the car check the selector as you said.

Thank you for help.

Strange, both 2nd and 4th gear have started working properly.
